Last updated: 2026-10-21 PyTools can be used without an account. Browsing tools and running them does not require a login, and the site keeps no record of who ran what. LOGGING IN WITH GITHUB Uploading tools, voting and reporting require a login, and the only login is GitHub OAuth. The site asks GitHub for the "read:user" scope, which lets it read your public profile once. From that profile it keeps exactly two values: - your GitHub account id (a number), used to recognise you on your next login. It is stored only as a one-way hash, so the database does not hold the id itself. - your GitHub username, used as your display name ("alias") next to the tools you upload. You can change the alias on your profile page at any time. Nothing else is read or kept: no email address, name, avatar, repositories or followers. The access token GitHub issues is used for that single profile request and then discarded; the site never stores it and cannot act on your GitHub account. Why the login is needed: - to attribute uploaded code to the account that uploaded it, and let only that account update, hide or delete it - to allow one vote and one report per account per tool - to ban an account that violates the terms of service WHAT ELSE IS STORED - the tools you upload (source code, name, tags), whether each is public, and how many times each has been run - your votes and reports (a report includes the reason you typed) - the admin and ban flags of your account While you are logged in, a signed session cookie holds your account record so the site knows who you are. Logging out clears it. No third-party cookies, analytics or advertising are used. TOOL RUNS Files and arguments you submit to a tool are written to a private run directory, processed in an isolated container with no network access, and deleted ten minutes after the run. They are not linked to an account. The web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, requested URL, time, browser identifier) for operating and securing the site. These are not combined with account data. SHARING AND DELETION Account data is used only to run this site. It is not sold, shared or given to anyone. To delete your data, delete your tools from your profile page and contact the site operator through the GitHub repository to have the account record removed.
